Updated: Egypt returns to Sinai with its army

Egypt is about to roll its tanks into the Sinai desert, and to send bomber planes as well, in the fight against radical jihadists.  What a blessing for the Egyptian army.  Since 1979, the Camp David Accords, Egypt was only allowed to have a minimal army in the Sinai.  Israel wanted to keep Egypt's military apparatus as far away as possible.

Israel seems adamant that Egypt abides by the agreements, but my guess is that the world - the USA included - will agree to Egypt's army returning in full force. Come Israel, you cannot have it both ways. You cannot demand Egypt to keep its borders with Israel closed, and at the same time that it does not have the means to do so.

The present situation is therefore exactly what Egypt's Armed Forces love, and exactly what President Mohamed Morsi loves. The attack on the Egyptian army by some radicals a few weeks ago was an Allah-send for the present leadership of Egypt.  The population of Egypt will be proud of its own army finally being back in the Sinai, and this buys much needed credit from the population that suffers under an ever increasing economic crisis.
